DIFFERENT TYPES OF INDIAN BREAD- RECIPE
Indian cuisine is a vast and delicious melting pot of flavors and spices. From the fiery heat of the South to the delicate sweetness of the North, there is something for everyone to enjoy. And no Indian meal would be complete without a side of bread. So here are some delicious and easy Indian bread
1. Naan-
Naan is a popular type of bread. It is cooked in a tandoor (a clay oven) and is made using all-purpose flour, yeast, yogurt, and milk. Naan has a soft texture and is usually served with butter and garlic. It is high in calories as one serving can be around 320 kcal. You can pair Naan with any Indian curry dish, such as Butter Chicken or the vegetarian option of Daal Makhani.
Recipe- Mix flour, yeast, and salt. In another bowl, mix water, yogurt, and milk. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and knead the dough until it becomes smooth. Cover the dough and let it rise for about 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 500 F. Divide the dough into small equal pieces and flatten each one into a small oval shape. Place them in the oven and cook for about 3-4 minutes or until fluffy and golden brown. Similarly, cook the rest of the naans.
2.Roti-
Roti is a staple food in India, also known as Chapati, made with whole wheat flour, salt, and water. It has a low-calorie count, with a single serving being around 70 kcal. A great side for Roti is paneer or dal. To mix it up, try out an exotic curry dish like Dum Aloo or Paneer Makhni.
Recipe- Mix the flour and salt. Add a little water and knead well. Make small dough balls and roll them out into a circular shape using a rolling pin. Heat a tawa (griddle) and put the roti on to cook. Flip the roti after 15 seconds and cook it until golden brown.
3.Paratha-
Paratha is a layered flatbread that is crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. It is usually made with whole wheat flour, salt, and a mixture of vegetables or spices. It is high in calories, with a single serving being around 200 kcal. A great side for Paratha could be an all-time favorite Paneer Butter Masala or Aloo Gobhi.
Recipe- Mix the flour, salt, and water to form a smooth dough. Roll out the dough into a circular shape. Sprinkle some vegetable or spice mixture on the rolled-out dough and fold it from the sides. Roll it out again and cook on a tawa (griddle) until it is golden brown.
4. Puri-
Puri is a deep-fried flatbread made with wheat flour, salt, and water. It is light and fluffy and can be eaten for breakfast or lunch. It is also high in calories, with one serving being around 151 kcal. Puri can be paired with potato curry that is lightly spiced such as Aloo Bhaji.
Recipe- Mix the flour, salt, and water to form a smooth dough. Divide the dough into small balls. Roll out each ball into a small circular shape and deep fry in hot oil until golden brown.
Quick Tips-
-Use warm water while making the dough.
-Make sure the tawa (griddle) is hot when cooking the bread.
